Spectrometers & Gratings for OCT

OCT Spectrometers and VPH gratings for faster, clearer

Enabling Innovative OCT Solutions

Industry leading OCT offerings

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technology that produces high-resolution, cross-sectional images, typically of tissue microstructure. It is often described as “optical ultrasound” because it uses light reflections to map internal structures, like how ultrasound uses sound waves.

At Wasatch we specialize in Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (SD-OCT), also known as Fourier-Domain OCT. This is a high-speed, ultra-high-resolution imaging technique that uses a spectrometer to split reflected light into wavelengths and analyze them simultaneously. It is adopted extensively in Ophthalmology and is the leading inspection method for a growing number of nondestructive testing applications including laser weld monitoring.

OCT Principles

  • •

Low Coherence Interferometry - In spectral-domain OCT (SD-OCT) is achieved by a broadband laser source used in combination with a dispersive element spectrometer.
  • •

Resolution Decoupling – axial resolution is determined by the spectrometer bandwidth, whilst the lateral resolution is determined by the systems imaging optics.
  • •

Scanning & Imagine Formation – depth resolution is determined by a single 1-D amplitude scan (A-scan), whilst a brightness scan (B-scan) is a 2-D cross-sectional image is created by stitching together a series of A-scans.
