Choose the Right System Integration
Balance probe flexibility, automation and compact system design
The ideal Raman system architecture depends largely on the application, sample, and use case. Some applications require flexible probe positioning relative to the sample, other use cases need a compact, integrated, design for portability. Wasatch offers multiple integration levels so you can choose the right balance of flexibility, automation, and footprint for your application.

Three Integration Levels for Different Application Use Cases
Choose the best level of compactness, automation and sample access
Fully Integrated System (Integrated Laser and Probe)
Combining spectrometer, laser, and probe optics into one unit creates the most compact Raman architecture. This configuration is ideal for portable instruments, OEM deployments, or routine measurements when bench space is limited, and a simplified operation is key. Unified software control enables automated data acquisition, while direct optical coupling can slightly improve signal capture.
Integrated Laser and Fiber Coupled Probe
High-efficiency holographic gratings are used in the low f/# bench design to maximize light collection and throughput. Grating designs are individually optimized for each spectrometer’s range and laser wavelength, to deliver smooth, and exceptionally high, first-order diffraction efficiency with very low polarization sensitivity across the full spectral range.
Performance and Trade-Offs
Understanding the impact on Raman performance
Across all integration levels, Wasatch systems use the same high-efficiency transmission optics bench. While integrated probes can couple up to 2x more light into the spectrometer than fiber-coupled probes, the key decision regarding the system integration is the balance between compactness, automation, and probe flexibility needed for the use case.
