About

Wasatch Photonics are known across the globe as an innovator and trusted supplier of advanced optical solutions. Our expertise are focused on three main competencies – volume phase holographic (VPH) gratings, Raman spectroscopy, and optical coherence tomography (OCT).

With more than 20 years under our belt, we’ve successfully empowered an expansive network of scientists, engineers, and OEM partners. With precision optics and spectroscopic tools, our collaborators have unlocked new levels of performance, scalability, and innovation.

As a leading supplier, we enable worldwide, progressive research and OEM product development in space exploration, pharmacy, climate monitoring, currency security and many more industries.

Wasatch Photonics-From Startup to Industry Leader

Founded in 2002, Wasatch Photonics is the brainchild of a group of inventive minds who saw potential in adapting VPH technology for broader optical applications. What initially began in a lab inspired by Star Wars and kitchen-table experiments with lasers, soon became a driving force in optical innovation.

Our roots trace back to Dr. Richard Rallison, a pioneer in DCG holography, and Dr. LeRoy Dickson, co-creator of the supermarket barcode scanner. Together, they helped lay the groundwork for high-efficiency holographic optics. After the telecom bubble burst, Wasatch pivoted from our initial market to embrace the spirit of experimentation, identifying new applications in astronomy, defence, medical imaging, and spectroscopy.
